Quick checks before you begin
- Stop, isolate and prevent restart. Wait for all motion to stop; secure raised units with the specified mechanical supports.
- Record the unit, serial number, row and installed position before removing components.
- Keep parts, shims and observations separated by assembly. Use qualified personnel and the complete applicable service procedure.
Start with the box, not the lubricant bottle
TM2109 distinguishes grease-type and oil-type gearcases. It also shows left/right inner and outer positions, through boxes, offset gearcases and different shaft interfaces. A whole-machine model or a similar housing photograph is not enough to select all service parts.
Record the box identification, unit serial number, row position and direction using the manual’s viewing convention. Its row-layout diagram uses the view from the cab. Preserve mounting and interface photographs before any authorized removal.
| Identify | Record | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Lubrication type | Actual box identity and applicable manual | Assuming all boxes use spindle grease |
| Installed position | Left/right, inner/outer or through-box location | Transferring a four-row example to every layout |
| Drive interface | Adapter-driven or spline-driven construction | Choosing a shaft solely by approximate length |
| Offset arrangement | Box, bracket and mounting configuration | Using another Style A/B definition from a different chapter |
Milky oil needs investigation, not just a top-up
The oil-type gearcase section directs attention to discolored, milky oil when checking for water. It warns that high-pressure cleaning can introduce water through seals or a vent. Record whether the change followed washing and which boxes are affected.
Follow the exact manual’s inspection and drain/refill procedure with safe isolation and suitable containment. This page does not provide a running check or a universal waiting time. A visual observation identifies a concern; it does not prove every seal or bearing has failed.
Abnormal heat, mechanical contact, severe leakage or evidence of drive damage requires a qualified assessment. Do not open or reach around a moving drive.
Protect seals and vents during cleaning
For the identified oil-type arrangement, the manual refers to a level unit and the sight glass. That is different from the fill-plug reference used for a grease-type arrangement. Do not exchange the two methods or treat the size of an oil-drain container as a specified fill capacity.
Assembly lubrication of individual bearings and seals is also a different instruction from filling the complete case. A grease mentioned during assembly does not by itself identify the case’s operating lubricant.
- Avoid directing pressurized water at gearcase seals or vents.
- Follow the approved cleaning method and component-protection instructions.
- If protective covers are used during cleaning, remove them before operating as directed by the manual.
- Record the lubricant type and prescribed level-check conditions before deciding the level is correct.
Separate leakage, wear and precision adjustment
The manual requires bearing assemblies to remain matched in specified arrangements. Similar-looking cups and cones are not a reason to mix parts from separate assemblies.
Backlash, end play and preload use different setups. The reviewed offset-gearcase text also contains a numerical discrepancy. This page does not publish a universal adjustment table or a press sequence; use current, configuration-specific service information.
| Finding | Record for the workshop | Do not conclude |
|---|---|---|
| Leakage | Exact location, when it occurs and service/cleaning history | That replacing every seal will solve the cause |
| Scored shaft or damaged bearing | Position and mating cup/cone condition | That a new seal alone restores the damaged interface |
| Shims found during removal | Original location and quantity for each interface | That the same stack can be copied to another box |
| Gear damage or mesh concern | Exact box and gear pair, technician’s measurements | That backlash and axial preload are the same measurement |
Make the repair location clear before ordering
Send the box identification and installed position along with the removed reference, interface photographs and the workshop’s required parts list. If the reference is uncertain, start with a category review rather than selecting the nearest-looking gear, seal or shaft.
YUCHENG HARVEST can review identified drive-part requirements for an inquiry. The review does not replace an on-machine diagnosis or establish that a complete gearcase repair kit is available.
- Unit and box identifiers, serial number and row layout.
- Lubrication type, affected location and cleaning/service history.
- Reference numbers and photographs of both the removed part and its mating interface.
- Required quantity and exact supply form, with unresolved measurements clearly marked.
- Identify gears and drive parts
Compare the installed reference, location and interfaces before requesting replacements.
- Inspect the drum-drive path
Separate drum, shaft, bearing and gear findings before ordering.
- Check idler gears and slip clutches
Inspect the related wear surfaces rather than tightening an unexplained slipping assembly.

Questions buyers and technicians ask
Can I use spindle grease in every row-unit gearcase?
No. Identify the actual box and its lubrication requirements. The manual distinguishes oil-type and grease-type cases, as well as assembly lubrication instructions.
Does milky oil prove the gears need replacing?
No. It is a contamination concern requiring the applicable inspection and service procedure. Gear and bearing condition must be assessed separately.
Can I copy another box’s shim stack?
No. Preserve the original records, but final acceptance depends on the correct measurements for the exact assembly. Backlash and preload are different checks.
