Quick checks before you begin
- Stop, isolate and prevent restart; wait for all motion to stop and secure raised units with the specified mechanical supports.
- Record the picking unit, serial number, row and front/rear column.
- Separate delivery, pad condition and installed contact observations.
- Stop repeated adjustment if there is binding, abnormal contact, heat or rapid damage.
Fluid delivery and pad contact are different checks
A wet-looking pad does not establish that every spindle level receives solution or that the fins scrub correctly. Likewise, a dry pad does not prove the pad itself is defective. Compare the affected level with a normal one and record whether the difference begins at delivery or at contact.
The moistener system helps clean plant deposits from the spindles; the doffer removes cotton. Changing a doffer setting is not a substitute for restoring the correct moistener function.
- Trace uneven moistener delivery
Compare the nozzle, distributor, individual tubes and pad openings.
- Map dirty lower spindles
Keep position and crop-condition records before attributing deposits to one part.
Position, height and holder spacing are not interchangeable
A height change moves the column's vertical relationship; it cannot straighten a holder or clear a blocked tube. Record the check required before requesting a setting or replacement.
| Check | What is being assessed | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal column alignment | The top-to-bottom relationship of the column to the drum | That the pads receive fluid or are undamaged |
| Column position | The pad-fin relationship to the dust collar at the specified point in the spindle path | A single contact condition throughout the whole path |
| Column height | Vertical contact between fins and spindles | That a bent or incorrectly spaced holder is repaired |
| Holder spacing | The holder-to-gauge relationship during workshop assessment | The running clearance between a pad and spindle |
Check the installed configuration before interpreting contact
The position procedure in TM2109 requires the moistener door to be closed and latched. An observation with the door swung out is not the same installed relationship. Door retention, column alignment and height are separate checks.
The manual illustrates old and new door-handle arrangements. Do not label these with the Style A/B names used in the doffer chapter or infer the correct service procedure from the whole-machine model alone.
- Record front and rear columns separately, with the row and picking-unit identity.
- Keep existing shim and mounting-position records if a qualified repair requires removal.
- Have a door that will not latch or stay secured assessed before relying on contact observations.
Use qualified personnel and the full applicable isolation, support and positioning procedure. Never reach through an open inspection area while components are moving.
Use the wear pattern to choose the next inspection
In the manual's height-check context, too-low pads can wear prematurely; too-high pads can clean poorly. Fin contact is assessed at a specified spindle position, and new fins need not flex identically along the spindle. These observations do not provide a universal adjustment amount.
Fin orientation also matters. The illustrated relationship is not a general instruction to fit fins parallel to the spindle or to press the pad continuously against the dust collar.
| Finding | Inspection direction | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| New pads wear rapidly | Pad identity, vertical contact, holder condition and mounting | Assuming more pressure or another new pad is the answer |
| Fluid appears present but spindles stay dirty | Actual delivery to the affected pad, fin condition and contact | Treating surface wetness as proof of correct cleaning |
| One height differs from adjacent levels | Its tube, pad openings and holder geometry | Changing the whole column before locating the difference |
| Door loose, binding or abnormal contact | Stop and request installed-geometry assessment | Forcing a setting to compensate for an unsecured or damaged component |
- Inspect the pad and its holder separately
Distinguish a damaged pad from blocked delivery or a holder that needs assessment.
A workshop gauge limit is not an operating gap
TM2109 measures the holder against a dedicated bar gauge. Its straightening-check section and replacement-holder section state different acceptance limits in different work contexts. Do not combine them into a single pad-to-spindle clearance or choose the more convenient number.
A useful workshop record identifies the component, repair stage, gauge, measurement location and applicable manual criterion. If the criteria or configuration are unclear, resolve them with current service information before work.
Holder straightening, replacement welding and tube reconnection can involve dedicated fixtures and hazardous work. This guide does not provide bending, welding, heating or abbreviated removal instructions.
Confirm whether you need a pad, holder or column holder
Keep diagnosis and ordering separate. Once the required repair is known, record the removed reference and what the replacement must include. A single pad, its holder and a column holder are not the same supply item.
YUCHENG HARVEST can review the installed reference, sample dimensions, mounting photographs and quantity for a replacement-parts inquiry. A catalog reference does not by itself confirm fitment, included hardware or material requirements.
- Picking-unit identity, serial number, row and front/rear location.
- Overall and close photographs taken only after safe isolation, including mounting ends and damaged areas.
- Legible reference numbers, required supply form and retained samples.
- Which levels are affected and any recent pad, holder, tube or door work.
- Identified AN279609 column holder
Confirm the installed reference, mounting and required assembly contents. The CP690 parts guide does not approve every unit or replacement relationship.
- Inspect the pad and its holder separately
Distinguish a damaged pad from blocked delivery or a holder that needs assessment.
- Identify moistener parts

Questions buyers and technicians ask
Will lowering the column fix a dry pad?
Not if fluid is failing to reach that pad. Check the local delivery path and pad openings before treating the problem as height.
Can a holder-gauge limit be used as the pad-to-spindle gap?
No. The gauge check measures a different object in a workshop setup. Use the correct service criterion for the identified repair stage.
Why can new pads still clean poorly?
Delivery, orientation, installed position, height or holder condition may still need attention. A replacement pad does not prove those checks have passed.
Is a column holder supplied with all pads and tubes?
Do not assume so. Confirm the exact reference and agreed contents before ordering; the pad, individual holder and column holder are different items.
